COLORADO FIELD HOCKEY CLUB NEWS
Hey everyone,
I warned you that I was crazy busy when I agreed
to take this on. Sorry for the delay.
We need a board and it needs to be a group that
has been nominated and voted upon. So what you need to do is nominate
people who you think would be good choices to help set up, organize
and run field hockey in Colorado. Self-nominations and nominations
of others are fine but please make sure the person you're nominating
knows you're doing so.
Send your nominations DIRECTLY to me at whit@fetedenver.com.
Do not pass GO, do not collect $200, send them directly to me. I
promise that I will not divulge who nominated whom for any reason.
All nominations must be received by me by May 15. We'll deal with
the voting (in person, not online) after that. We need a minimum
of 3 people but 9 would be ideal.
Thanks!
whitr

VERY IMPORTANT NEWS
The meeting will be Saturday March
15 at DU, 2pm.
We will start 30 minutes after we finish playing (we play 11.30am
- 1.30pm). If you can not attend but want your voice/opinions heard
and/or would be interested in filling positions in the organization,
please let me (whit@fetedenver.com)
know ASAP.
PLEASE COME ALONG TO THE MEETING, WE NEED ALL PLAYERS TO ATTEND.
The items which I've heard discussed which
should be on the agenda are:
What is the purpose of this organization?
What will it do, not do and why? How should it work with existing
organizations like Early Birds, USFHA, etc..
Who will be members of the organization?
Scheduling/organizing teams for tournaments-social, competitive,
co-ed, women's, men's.
Code of conduct for participants.
Scheduling field times at various venues around the state.
Money-dues? Fees? Paying for field times, website, shirts, etc...
These are just the things I can think of at the
moment. Please, when you respond to the dates question, if you have
agenda items, let me know.
Just to be clear here, I only want to help
get this organization together. I am not trying to tell anyone how
things must' be done; this isn't Whit's agenda or meeting. I
just stepped up to make something happen. I also want to be clear,
I am happy to help facilitate the first couple of meetings but I don't
have time to be an officer of the organization or to do much beyond
this. I'm running two businesses at the moment and sort of losing
my mind. So, just to put your minds to rest, I have no plans for this
to be another fiefdom of mine.
I suggest we use a version of Robert's Rules
of Order (http://www.robertsrules.com/) just to keep things and moving
along.
Having just put together a not-for-profit business with the new IRS
rules, I feel pretty capable of advising this organization on how
it can proceed if that's the direction we want to go.
So, let me know (whit@fetedenver.com)
no later than Monday the 18th which dates work for you and if there's
anything you'd like added to the agenda and I'll make it happen. Depending
upon how many people are coming, we'll have to find a good place to
meet but I was thinking of the lobby at the Ritchie Center or the
Newman Center at DU since it's fairly central to folks coming from
the Springs and Ft. Collins.
Please pass this along to anyone who may not
have seen it. Even if you can't be at the meeting, feel free to add
agenda items.
Thanks,
Whit

High Altitude field hockey??
We are thinking of trying to play the worlds
highest field hockey game. We don't know the what the current record

If anyone is interested in playing a hockey game with no oxygen,
or if you have any thoughts on it please put
a post on the forum.

they could go for another date!!
However, there has been a lot of interest, and it is only a few
months away so lets start getting a team or teams together. This
will be a good hard competition to play in, so we should do some
training before we go so keep that in mind before you say yes.

emailand let me know if:
Yes, you want to come.
Yes, you want to come depending on the dates.
So far the players interested are:

let me know.

The State Games of America

I will let you all know.
It is a mixed tournament held Saturday and Sunday at Northwestern

Hockey mixed tournament in Fort Collins......PLAYERS
WANTED
Saturday 28th October.
Teams from all over the state will be showing off their hockey skills
at the Fort Collins tournament. If you would like to be part of
this hockey extravaganza please email Phil
Sparkes as soon as you can so Will knows how many teams will
be there. Possible start time would be 8.00 or 9.00 depending on
number of teams.
I am sure between Denver, Colorado Springs and everyone else not
attached to DU, CSU and CU we can get enough players for a couple
of teams.
It is time we went up to Fort Collins to play.

National Field Hockey Festival.
This years festival is being played over Thanksgiving, Nov. 23-26

to help organize, please email me rachelsparkes@msn.com

Newspaper article
The Fort Collins Coloradoan newspaper recently
did an article on our very own Austin Pile.
Feeling too old to play hockey??
When we reach a certain age in our life we
start thinking about retiring from hockey. Well it seems we might
just have to wait a bit longer to hang the stick because a lady
in England has just been entered into the Guinness Book of Records
for being the world's oldest hockey player.
