Report

The women took a team to the Cal-Cup tournament over Memorial Day weekend. Most of the players had not played together before but we were determined to have a good time. In the opening game, it took us a while to get going and play together as a team, but in the second half Lauren scored the much deserved goal to give us our first win. The second game was much better although we conceded 1 goal, we played really well as a team and 2 first half goals from Hllary and Rachel gave us our second win and ended the day with 2 wins out of 2.

The second day didn't start very well, we lost the opening game, didn't play very well and it was a game we would like to forget. We managed to lift ourselves for the second game and won comfortably 2-0 with goals from Lauren and Rachel.

The third day started with a hard fought semi final game against Cal Poly. It ended 0-0, so strokes were taken to decide who went into the final. After 5 strokes were taken, the score was even so it went to sudden death. Kathy was first up to take our stroke after Cal Poly had missed theirs. She coolly stepped up and scored the winning stroke to send us into the final. We could have done with the final being a day or a week later as we were all feeling the strain of playing 5 hard games with only one substitute, then on the final day we were down to just 11 players.

We lost 3-2 in the final game to a team we had previously beat 2-0. Mulligan took the lead, but mid way through the second half, two quick goals from Tami and Rachel gave us the lead. We couldn't hold on to the lead and Mulligan got the equalizer. This is where it went a bit wrong for us. Mulligan took a shot which was OUTSIDE the circle, but the umpire gave it and that turned out to be the winning goal - but we are not bitter about the "Goal" and very rarely talk about it.

The whole weekend was a great success, with a mixture of older wiser players and young talented fit players.......
