Field hockey is a very tough sport, and can be one of the most competative team sports there are out on the field. The most important factor to keeping safe on the field, is the correct protective gear, from head to toe. You are going to want to find the best helmets, mouth guards, padding, and off course, the best cleats to avoid an ankle or leg injury during play. If you do not have the best protective gear, you are bound to get injured, and potentially injure another player as well.

Another thing to remember is playing by the rules of the game. If you follow the rules, and the set boundaries, although it is always possible for a player to get hurt, if you make sure to play properly, you can greatly avoid a serious injury to yourself or another player. So, knowing the rules, and the right way to play the game, are also essentials to avoiding an injury.
